Sport and disability |
Sport Waikato believes that all people have the same right and should be given the same opportunities to participate, enjoy and achieve in their choice of sport or active living pursuit. People with a disability have traditionally participated in sport and active leisure within a disability environment. But with the education system now integrating children with disabilities, many of these young people now expect the same opportunities in sport. Sport Waikato’s Sport Opportunity programme links people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities into community sport and will work with schools and community initiatives to ensure inclusive sport and active living philosophies are adopted. Please check out the 'Links' section to find The Inclusion Clubs details and for links to their handy webisodes check out the 'Resources' section.
After School Programmes
Sport Waikato is pleased to offer more Sport Opportunity initiatives designed to provide sporting opportunities for children and young people with disabilities and their families. By utilising clubs within the community, we will provide an environment that will allow children and young people with a disability the opportunity to participate and develop skills in a variety of sports and activities.
